where can a guy get nutritional yeast flakes in melbooooourns?
Nutritional yeast (or nooch as its known to vegans, also more commonly know as "savoury yeast" in Australia) is available a lot of places. Mainly health food stores and of course the Radical Grocery. But if you're stuck out in the boons or not in Melbourne town I'm not sure? You can always order online from cruelty free shop (based in Sydney and the first online vegan retailer in AU!), vegan online (based in Adelaide with free shipping to Adelaide region for orders over $60) or the vegan store (based in Brisbane). I've bought from all three retailers and the service has been amazing. I can highly recommend all of these businesses. Nooch is best kept in the dark (sunlight can make it ineffective) and according to ehow keeping it in the fridge/freezer is best.
Also uproar, a shop based in Melbourne, stocks it and will deliver to you:

ReplyDeleteIneffective how?
I've read that its destroys the yeast, therefore destroying any nutritional content. Anyone else know more about this? I remember reading it in in the garden of vegan
ReplyDeleteAfter reading quite a few forums, there's no stated reason why but most state keeping in the nootch in a dry, dark place to not destroy the b vitamins.
ReplyDeleteIf you're absolutely desperate I can do a mail order for you from my wholefoods shop in Hobart. naturalfood(at)eumarrah.com.au.
ReplyDeleteif you're in the city and can't get to the rad grocery habib's wholefoods has the stuff in stock...it's on fliders street, right above the subway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the plug, Carla! Free shipping coming soon to The Vegan Store too. Details will be in the newsletter in the next day or two. [/shameless self-promotion]
ReplyDelete@ elizabeth thanks so much! I love vegans! we're all so helpful!
ReplyDelete@ louise yes I always forget about habibs, they have such a good range on things but so expensive!
@ cass wow! free shipping! thats what everyone loves!
Thanks for answering my question Carla! Will check out Radical Grocery as I'd prefer to buy locally if possible - last time I was in there they didn't have any handy, but I think they've had a massive restock since then... fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteOh, and how neat to hear Eumarrrah offering to mailorder over - makes my ex-Taswegian heart swell a little :)
I just found nutritional yeast last Friday at my local healthfood store "Go Vita" Knox City Shopping Centre (if you live in the Eastern burbs). Haven't tried it out yet - I'm just a newly hatched vegan :)
ReplyDeleteI found nutritional yeast in my health food store (victoria gardens, richmond) but i think its mostly called savoury yeast in aus!
ReplyDeletethanks Karla (hi!) and anon you're right, perhaps thats why some people have trouble finding it, I will ammend this entry now thanks!
