Hokay here it is kids. I'm hoping you had a wonderful break and are now slowly adjusting back to the working world. I had almost 3 weeks off and it was wonderful. I did wild and crazy things like paid full price for the movies TWICE, slept loads and I promise I didnt start working on anything until the Friday before I was due to come back. I practically had to sit on my hands but it was fine. I worked on my health and my house, creating a base for me to enjoy coming back to as I'm going to be doing a shiteload of travelling this year.
Lets look the things I enjoyed the most in 2011:
I ended up seeing 5 operas through Opera Australia I was only disappointed in one, Don Giovanni but that has everything to do with the content of the opera and not the production (the production was wonderful). My number one favourite was OAs Weimar Republic staging of La Boheme.
My beloved theatre. I saw 19 plays this year and a good mixture of small and large productions. My biggest revelation of last year were 5pound, I'm really looking forward to what they do in 2012. My biggest disappointment was MTC. They can be so good (took out the top gong!) but their season was all about crazy women and the people that suffer them and hardly any good non crazy roles for women. All of their flagship plays were solely for men (Hamlet, Importance of Being Earnest). Looking at their 2012 program looks like they have tried to right the balance but we'll see.
1. The Importance of Being Earnest - MTC
2. Richard the Third - The Old Vic (London)
3. The Woods - 5pound
4. My Romantic History - Red Stitch
5. Little Match Girl - The Malthouse
1. Look Right Through Me - The Malthouse
2. Next to Normal - MTC
3. The Gift - MTC
4. Don Parties On - MTC
5. Apologia - MTC
Ahh my beloved film. I had a GREAT film year last year, ended up going to Italian Film Festival and MQFF (Goes West) and took the whole 2 weeks off for MIFF. I saw 59 films (go me!) here is my list:
1. In a Better World
4. Page One of the New York Times
5. Cave of Forgotten Dreams
1. The Tree of Life
3. Innocent Saturday
4. Never Let Me Go
5. The Kings Speech
Honorable mentions go to Kaboom, True Grit and Somewhere all amazing films.
and finally I don't go to gigs much anymore but the ones I do go to I've had a great time here are my faves:
1. Grace Jones (easily became the equal first best gig I've ever been to)
2. Dolly Parton (scrambled up the ladder to SECOND BEST EVER)
3. Joanna Newsom
4. Aesop Rock
5. Joan as Policewoman
What were your faves of last year? Glad to be back kidlets, it's going to be a big year for EAVP!! xxx Carla
